Staff Spotlight ~ Janell Colosio

For Walker Elementary’s Staff Spotlight, we would like to recognize Janell Colosio, a 1st-grade teacher at Linell K. Walker Elementary School. Janell has worked in education in a variety of roles, including as a district substitute, a long-term substitute at Ambrosini, and an ESL aide at Fortuna Middle School, giving her a strong foundation in supporting diverse learners.
Principal Helen Nelson shares, “Janell is an energetic, dedicated teacher, always looking out for what she can do to help students and staff. She cares deeply about student success and creating a positive school climate where students may thrive.” Her hardworking nature and commitment to bringing out the best in everyone help make WES a wonderful place to learn.
Janell is a proud single mom of two boys and has a deep, personal passion for literacy. She says, “This passion comes from helping my own mom learn to read as an adult and seeing firsthand how life-changing literacy can be. That experience inspired me to deepen my understanding of reading instruction so I can help others in meaningful ways.” For Janell, there is nothing more rewarding than helping a child gain confidence, discover their potential, and know that someone believes in them.
A fun fact about Janell is that she loves eating really spicy peppers, and she recently checked a big item off her wish list by running her very first half-marathon.
Janell’s perseverance, dedication to reading, and positive impact on her students make her a wonderful part of the WES team. We are grateful to have her in our district!
