Staff Spotlight ~ Erica Delville

In this trimester’s spotlight, Toddy Thomas would like to highlight Erica Delville, a 6th-grade math and science teacher at Toddy Thomas Middle School. Erica grew up in San Jose, moved to the area in 2012 to attend Humboldt State University, and later returned there to earn her Multiple Subjects teaching credential in 2018. After gaining experience with younger elementary students, she joined our district in 2020 and has spent the last six years teaching 6th grade.
Principal Kent Chapman shares, “Students in Erica’s room know that she will do whatever it takes to help them be successful. She always builds a strong rapport with her classes, earning their respect and building their confidence. Her lessons are engaging and effective. Students are lucky to have Erica as a teacher.” Her engaging lessons and ability to build confidence create a highly supportive environment for her classes.
Erica's background in education includes working in summer and after-school programs, serving as an SDC aide, and teaching kindergarten and second grade. She says, “There are many things I love about teaching, but I would have to say I find building meaningful connections and relationships with students to be the most rewarding. I can only hope to give students what some of my teachers gave to me: a place to feel seen, supported, and loved.”
A few fun facts about Erica are that she is half French, speaks the language, and attended a French immersion school as a child. She was also a competitive swimmer and water polo player, and she still regularly swims laps, covering over a mile at a time. Additionally, she enjoys crocheting amigurumi plushies, some of which she shares with her students through her classroom store.
Erica’s dedication to student success, strong classroom rapport, and rewarding connections make her an integral part of the Toddy Thomas team. We are grateful to have her in our district!
