Staff Spotlight ~ Aaron Johnson

We are proud to highlight Aaron Johnson, the 8th-grade science teacher at Fortuna Middle School. Aaron has worked in education for 9 years, spending 5 years teaching in Weaverville before moving to the coast to join our district 4 years ago.
Principal Saul Lewis shares, “Aaron has a great work ethic. He is the first person on campus every day. He is always prepared, and his calm demeanor leads to high student engagement.” His dedicated approach and steady presence help make FMS a structured and engaging place for students to learn.
Aaron brings a diverse background to the classroom, having grown up on a family farm in Washington State, served in the US Army as a Korean Linguist, and earned a Zoology degree from UC Santa Barbara. He has taught multiple grade levels and subjects throughout his career, including 6th-grade math and science, art, 8th-grade English, and a 3rd/4th-grade split classroom. He says, “My favorite thing about being a science teacher is when students get excited about science and relate what we have learned in class with what they have seen in the real world.”
When he isn't teaching, Aaron loves spending time in the outdoors and observing wildlife. A fun fact about Aaron is that he runs a side business breeding and selling geckos online and at reptile shows all over California.
Aaron’s strong work ethic, calm classroom environment, and ability to connect science to the real world make him a standout part of the FMS team. We are grateful to have him in our district!
